Do you deserve the Swiss passport? This app reveals it

By Matthias Niederberger · 24 July 2026

An app developed in French-speaking Switzerland presents the naturalization questions in a form you can practise every day.

Anyone wishing to obtain Swiss nationality has to answer a series of questions. They cover not only their personal situation, but also Switzerland, their canton and their commune. This is the civic knowledge test. Until now, the exercise had a rather austere character. An app developed in French-speaking Switzerland intends to change that.

Its creator, Vincenzo Casini, 43, is Italian. Living in Switzerland since 2014, he works as an "AI Architect" at UEFA. He designed this app during his own naturalization procedure. Already today, several thousand people use it in Switzerland.

The Swiss Naturalization Test app is based on the canton's official question catalogue, which comprises nearly 330 questions devoted in particular to democracy, the welfare state or history.

The app offers neither alternative questions nor additional practice material. Its novelty lies in its more user-friendly presentation. It offers in particular a Smart Coaching system, an online leaderboard as well as various game modes: Play, Rapid Fire, Challenge and Conquest, or Tandem. In other words, part of the naturalization process is turned into a playful experience.

A test carried out by our editorial team shows that this approach is indeed more pleasant than going through the 330 questions in one go. In RapidFire mode, you have to answer true-or-false questions covering all the Swiss cantons. How many correct answers can you give in 60 seconds?

The app is entirely free and can also be used offline. Users can also join a community and exchange on social media, because "we learn better together".

The app is not aimed solely at people going through a naturalization procedure. Vincenzo Casini also wants to reach Swiss citizens:

"Preparing for naturalization doesn't stop on exam day: you can keep discovering Switzerland and enjoying it."

Those who want to check whether they would pass the exam can download the app on iOS or Google Play.
